Professor Palmer has written a textbook on visual perception, Vision Science: Photons to Phenomenology. He uses this text book for his graduate and undergraduate courses in visual perception at the University of California Berkeley, and the book is also being used in many other perception courses around the country. The book covers visual perception from the retinal receptors to theories of consciousness. The most striking feature of the book is the emphasis that it places on converging methodologies in the interdisciplinary field of vision science. This perspective presents evidence from many fields that converge on the same basic question: what are the mechanisms of visual perception?
